Organic RAW MACA from the top of the Peruvian Andes

This video shows how and where Maca is grown and cultivated, then processed and packaged. Maca and Canadian hemp seed are some of our favorite ingredients for smoothies here at The Blue OK.

Maca (Lepidium meyenii, Peruvian ginseng) is a plant with a radish-like root that is native to the high Andes of Bolivia and Peru. Native Peruvians have used Maca for several thousand years, as a medicinal food to enhance fertility, libido, to support healthy erectile function in men, and to alleviate PMS & menopausal symptoms in women. It was used by the warriors of the Inca King for energy and stamina. Although maca is unrelated to the ginseng family, it has been dubbed “Peruvian ginseng” because it is used to increase stamina, energy, and sexual function.

So why does maca make you feel so good?

As an adaptogen that supports the endocrine system, maca works broadly to contribute to overall well being. It nourishes and calms the nerves with calcium, phosphorus, vitamins B1 and B12 , and fatty acids.

It stimulates the appetite and aids in digestion with calcium, vitamins B1 and B2, B12, and fatty acids. Its phosphorus is a primary building block in the cell fuels Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and glucose-6-phosphate (G6P). (Think additional energy and stamina!)

At the same time it supports the adrenal glands so they don’t have to rely on damaging cortisol to fuel the body. Its sterols, calcium, and vitamin C help build muscle mass and its starches aid in physical endurance. Its alkaloids help the body assimilate all these nutrients just where they are required.

Adding maca to a raw chocolate almond milk shake adds nutrients and a delicious ‘malted’ flavor. Then you have a Mocha Maca almond superfood shake! If you use coconut water or add some fresh coconut, you can make a Coconut Almond Mocha Maca superfood shake.  You can buy Maca powder from many sources online, we use Raw Food World in Ojai California as one of our suppliers.
