My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey

This video shares brain scientist Jill Taylor’s  enlivening, humorous, and inspiring account of the loss of her cognitive, left-brain functioning that occurred during a stroke. The stroke suddenly allowed her perception-based right brain to fully awaken to its prior state of limitless feeling. Her story is a powerful personal testimony to how life-suppressive and love-suppressive our left-brained civilization has become.

Taylor’s unexpected experience of the ecstasy of the non-separative state rings true to each of us. It moves us to feel how essential it is that every being find ways to relax the body/mind and release the totalitarian regime that our thinking, separate-self-making minds wield over our individual and collective lives. The breakdown of this separative illusion can happen in many ways, including meditation and all kinds of perceptually-based experiences.

Taylor’s remarkable  story points out that if our lives are to be restored to native joy, that there must be a radical shift in the focus of our value system and choices that we make. The undeniable euphoria of her experience of the right-brain awakening makes clear that we live in a civilization that patterns beings away from their native happiness. Her experience is both a valuable recovery guide for anyone touched by a brain injury, and an emotionally stirring testimony that deep internal peace truly is accessible to anyone, at any time.

Her personal account points to the dead-end effects of modern man’s fear of life and nature and exclusive focus in the thinking mind which has led to the suppression of the body’s natural perceptual functions. Taylor’s “stroke of insight” points to the underlying reality that the perceptual function of the being is the primary and essential foundation for the wholeness, joy, and peace of every individual and of our society at large.   -The Blue OK

In this remarkable book, Taylor shares her unique perspective on the brain and its capacity for recovery, and the sense of omniscient understanding she gained from her inspiring voyage out of the abyss of her wounded brain. It would take eight years for Taylor to heal completely. Because of her knowledge of how the brain works, her respect for the cells composing her human form, and most of all an amazing mother, Taylor completely repaired her mind and recalibrated her understanding of the world according to the insights gained from her right brain that fateful morning.
